What is Iyengar Yoga?

Iyengar-Yoga-CertIyengar Yoga, named after and developed by B. K. S. Iyengar, is a form of Hatha Yoga that has an emphasis on detail, precision and alignment. The Iyengar system often uses props which enable students to perform the asanas correctly, minimising the risk of injury or strain, and making the postures accessible to both young and old, flexible and stiff.

Iyengar Yoga focusses on technique – precise alignment of the body in poses and sequence – logical sequencing of poses ensure the students safety.

All Iyengar Yoga teachers are trained to a very high standard. They undergo rigorous training, over many years, with practical and written examinations in practice, anatomy and physiology and philosophy. This standard of excellence is maintained through ongoing professional development and further teacher training. It is this level of dedication and quality in practice and teaching that makes Iyengar Yoga one of the most widely practiced forms of Yoga in the world.

The Iyengar Yoga Certification mark is a guarantee of excellence, clarity and depth of understanding, and one which Naomi is proud to display.
